UMAD - Universal Martial Arts Dojos

My son has been under Sensei Crosby's instruction for several years. My review is based on the younger/lower belt classes, but I would expect the same for the rest of UMAD's classes. Sensei Crosby strives for the students to bring out their best, while meeting at their level. The students look out and support each other. The parents gather to encourage students, especially individuals who may struggle with something or if they are feeling anxious. UMAD is a great environment to build character, develop confidence, and learn how to overcome obstacles: both in class and out in the world. "Listen, focus, and try your best"

Sensei Crosby has been a great inspiration in my daughter’s life. She has learned self defense, motivation, patience and self confidence. She loves to listen and learn new karate techniques. I would HIGHLY recommend UMAD to anyone.

We love our entire dojo family! Sensei Crosby is an excellent teacher of the martial arts, but also takes the time to help each student with what they may be struggling with, by way of constructive feedback and genuine encouragement. Sensei does not make the kids feel badly about where they are in the training process, especially when it’s not where they’d like to be - rather he’s kind and encouraging, inspiring kids not to give up, and teaching them the practice/value of hard work. At the same time, we have been impressed since day one with how Sensei Crosby places importance on respect and discipline, communicates expectations and ‘code of ethics’ to the students, displays and lives those standards himself.. and has an incredible way of firm but respectful correction. Our kids have been students for over five years, and we highly recommend Sensei Crosby and UMAD for anyone looking for a place that sees and meets each student as an individual, and that invites you to be part of a hardworking team, while also having fun! UMAD is by far the best dojo in the CSRA area, hands down! We couldn't be more happy to be a part of the UMAD family! Sensei Crosby is amazing, incredibly skilled and knowledgeable! Since my son comes to UMAD and are trained by Sensei Crosby, his skills have improved a lot, he absolutely loves it and keeps looking forward to each day he can train! It's his favorite part of the week!
