My son was cleaning his trumpet when the brush end of his snake cleaner broke off and got jammed inside the valve. We took it to Portman's first and after spending some time with it, told me they couldn't do it and it wasn't worth their time. They were very condescending in how they spoke to me and basically blamed my son. He was pretty upset. Before we gave up, I found Kirkwood online and took it there for a second opinion. The man I spoke with was super kind and although he agreed it may not be possible, he was willing to try creative methods to get it out. He also (without prompting) looked at my son and said "in case no one has told you this yet, this wasn't your fault". After, they way we were spoken to at Portman's, I could've cried. I could feel the difference in my son's demeanor from a professional reassurance that it wasn't his fault. THANK YOU! We weren't expecting a miracle, but the next morning they gave us one! They successfully removed the brush! We have 3 more kids excited to try their hands at an instrument when they reach middle school. I will not forget this experience Kirkwood.

Always use Kirkwoods, my saxophone instructor recommends them, however, this is the second time they have been listed as open online, and there's a sign saying they're closed for inventory. If you are closed for several days and don't post it online, then people like me will drive 45 minutes to get there after checking if you're open, just to be turned away.

I originally was a customer of Brunkow's Music until they closed down. At the time, there was only one other music store that I was familiar with so I began to do business there. I never was completely happy with this particular music store and I have never been a huge fan of business chains. Then, someone told me about Kirkwood's. I took my flute in to be repaired and was highly satisfied with the work and the turn-around time. A huge bonus and selling point for me was and still is their excellent customer service! Also they are a locally owned business. I no longer take my instrument anywhere else for repairs and handle all of my music needs there. If they don't have what I need, they never hesitate to order it for me in a timely manner. I have been a Kirkwood's Music and Repair customer for 7 years now and have yet to have a poor experience.

I have come here for some of my repairs before...but today was the first time I've ever seen a business have a sign saying they're open with the door locked and have on the door saying "I'm in the back working on something at the moment and please wait 10 minutes. If 10 minutes have passed, please read the sign again." Some customers may have the ability to do so. However, unfortunately my situation is where I have to use a knee scooter due to a disability and had to depend on someone for a ride. I just think thats bad business practice and me personally will have to think twice due to my circumstances.

My son started a guitar class this semester and I had an old Fender Squire that was missing a string. Don was very helpful. He explaind to my son and I what strings to get and why, then he strung the guitar and explained the stretching and tuning process.
