Warning***To anyone with toddlers or infants seeking shelter from your abuser. Do not come here!!! You will be written up if your toddler or infant cries during quiet time hours. You have three write ups before you are asked to leave. It is an overwhelming amount of pressure not knowing at what time your child will awaken during the night, if at all, and what temperament they'll be in. What do you do when you've done all you can without remedy? Get written up and then reminded how many write ups you can receive. House staff are unreasonable, unprofessional, and lack compassion (Mia, Allison, and Rene). I was told after disputing the write up by the house manager and I quote, "I stand behind my staff 100%" Rene words were a sharp knife in my back. Rene lacks empathy and compassion and just like the write up, her words were unnecessary and unhelpful being in her position. Mia the staff member who wrote me up for my 2 year old crying after hours blatantly fabricated the time frame in which she was crying and stated (because she can see through walls) that I did nothing to try and comfort her. If she would lie about something like that she would lie about anything. For your own comfort and protection from being further abused and manipulated "STAY AWAY"!!! This is not a place to grow with children though it definitely could be. For those without children as long as you follow the rules I believe this would be a great place for you. Staff at the Cumbee Center are very supportive and helpful (Kamala, McKenzie, and a couple other ladies (volunteers) who helped me whose names I don't remember. Do your best! You got this!

I’m extremely disappointed with the treatment my children and I got here… it seemed like no one wanted or cared to listen to what was going on with us. The majority of the staff members sit in their office on their phones and do not offer much of their empathy or compassion to those struggling. As a mom battling with depression anxiety panic attacks just trying to be mentally strong enough to keep myself together and do what’s best for us I did not receive the support I needed from them. The supervisor Victoria was extremely unprofessional and very accusatory and hurtful. Another mom with small children was telling my 4 year old not to talk to her children making my daughter cry so I went over to calmly talk to her and hear her out and then explain that that was wrong… all my daughter said was good morning. The supervisor came into action defending the mom saying it was ok and that it was her right to do that… no no that was not right and my daughter didn’t deserve that and to be called a racist for no reason. She is four years old and doesn’t even recognize skin color nor under stand racism. I really hope that something is done about this place and that this does not happen to any other mom because no matter what we deserve help compassion and respect and it’s what they get paid to do…

They're so inclusive and understanding here. They know how to help people who got away from awful situations and are constantly learning as society changes. If youve been abused, call. There's a short waiting list, but it doesn't take long to get in. There are also sister locations, plus they are LGBTQIA+ friendly.
