Academy Sports + Outdoors

Horrible lines for check out. I waited at least 20 minutes in line. I wanted to leave my things and go, but I needed what I came in for. The store is nice. There's a lot of selection and it's clean. The last impression (checkout) was bad. There were employees walking around, back behind the counters they just would not open another register. The guy coming in for his shift took his sweet time getting ready before he turned his light on for the next person with a line wrapping all out into the store. The manners didn't seem bothered in the least. That part killed me wanting to ever go back there. It was great until that part.

Found exactly what I was looking for in the store. I had no greeting and no contact with the staff. Finally found what I was looking for on my own. Very clean well organized store. The only staff member that was very courteous was at the checkout. To be fair this was right at opening time in the morning, maybe everyone was not awake yet!

I can find good products here, usually just what I'm looking for, but I will think twice about coming because of the lack of customer service. On a normal Monday afternoon there were over 24 people in line to check out and one cashier. The line was remained long with no help for the solo cashier. It's not the only time I've experienced this wait time & I'll avoid Academy if I'm in a hurry.

The store is fine. Customer service is an issue. The last couple of times I've been, the lines were ridiculous. Today, there was one person working the gun counter with a good dozen people waiting to be helped. The one worker spent a good 30 minutes on one boomer who wanted to see and hear about every gun in the store and build a life-long friendship with the employee, but then left without buying anything. Can't fault him for not buying without doing his due diligence, but I can fault the employee for not multitasking with other customers, when it's clear the one customer was just browsing. I can also fault management for only having one person working a very busy section of the store. I gave up and left, as did several others.

Something happened - the "perfect" sports store is a mess! With three kids, we have been to Academy many, many times over the years. Lately (over the last 6 months or more), the store has been a mess. Empty shelves, disheveled racks, and can't find someone to help if we need it. The redeeming grace is the gun counter and ammo - that is finally restocked and looking great with knowledgeable help. Do better Academy!
